Diving in the Mariana Trench
Two UT Dallas geoscientists ventured far below the Pacific Ocean surface this week to conduct research in some of the deepest waters on Earth. Researchers Plan Voyage Near the Bottom of the Sea
An undersea voyage next month will give explorers at UT Dallas a chance to study rocks exposed in the Mariana Trench, the world’s deepest geologic formation. Dr. Robert J. Stern, UT Dallas professor of geosciences, will meet graduate student Julia Ribeiro and other U.S. and Japanese geoscientists for the two-week research cruise in mid-July. |
Researchers Find Rare Life in Pacific Ocean’s Depths
A joint research group of U.S. and Japanese geoscientists, including a team from UT Dallas, has discovered a system of hydrothermal vents teeming with life three miles below the surface of the western Pacific Ocean.
